Wildlife of Sumatra is a free field guide to the wildlife of Sumatra, available as a website and as a mobile app for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data the service does and does not handle. It applies to the Wildlife of Sumatra mobile apps and to the Wildlife of Sumatra website, wherever it is hosted.

We do not collect, store, sell, or share personal information about you. There are no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics trackers, and no third-party tracking software in the app or on the website.
We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth, photographs, contacts, or payment details. The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, photo library, contacts, or precise or approximate location. You do not need to create an account or sign in to use any feature.
Some features save your choices locally on your device so that they are still there next time you open the app or site. This includes your saved trip plan, your wildlife sightings log, the species you have marked as seen, notices you have dismissed, and your chosen language.
This information is held in your browser's or the app's own local storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we cannot read it. You can erase it at any time by clearing the app's storage, clearing your browser data for the site, or uninstalling the app.
Where the guide lists a tour operator or a local guide, contacting them opens your own email app with a message addressed to that operator. That email is sent directly from you to them; it does not pass through us, and we do not receive a copy of it or see what you write.
When you tap one of those contact links, we record an anonymous record that an enquiry was made, consisting of the date and time, which location page it came from, and which operator was contacted. This helps us understand which parts of the guide are useful and lets operators know that listings are generating interest. It does not include your name, email address, IP address, device identifier, or anything else that identifies you, and it cannot be traced back to you.
Once you are in contact with a tour operator or guide, any information you give them is handled by that business under their own privacy practices, not ours. We are not responsible for how third-party operators handle your information.
If you choose to email us at mikegordonwildlife@gmail.com, we will have whatever you put in that email, including your email address. We use it only to reply to you and to act on what you have told us, such as correcting an error in the guide. We do not add you to any mailing list.
The app and website contain no advertising and no advertising software development kits. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, advertising identifiers, or any similar tracking or profiling service, and we do not build advertising profiles of visitors.
The website and the app's content are served by Cloudflare. As with any website, Cloudflare's servers process standard technical request information in order to deliver pages and protect the service from abuse. This is handled by Cloudflare under its own privacy terms, and we do not use it to identify or profile individual users.
Wildlife of Sumatra is a general-audience wildlife reference suitable for all ages. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or delete on request. Any information held on your device is under your control and can be removed as described above. If you have emailed us and would like us to delete that correspondence, write to us and we will.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date shown above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
