The flesh-footed shearwater, also called the sable shearwater, is a medium-large shearwater that mainly inhabits the Indo-Pacific. Its plumage is black, with pale pinkish feet and a pale bill with a distinct black tip. It breeds in colonies in two main areas, the south-west Pacific (including Lord Howe Island, South Australia and northern New Zealand) and islands off Western Australia, with a few pairs on St Paul Island in the Indian Ocean (Wikipedia, general species account).

It forms a group with the pink-footed shearwater, from which a 2021 study found very little genetic difference (Wikipedia, general species account).
