Germain's swiftlet is now treated as conspecific with the edible-nest swiftlet, a small swift of Southeast Asia about 14 cm long. Its opaque, whitish nest is made exclusively of solidified saliva and is the main ingredient of bird's nest soup, a delicacy of Chinese cuisine (Wikipedia, general species account).

Like its relatives it feeds on flying insects caught on the wing, over a range of habitats from coasts to mountains (Wikipedia, general species account).
