Rattus hoogerwerfi
Habitat
Montane forest above 2,000m
Range
Endemic to western Sumatra (including Mount Leuser)
Hoogerwerf's rat, named after the zoologist Andries Hoogerwerf, is found only in western Sumatra, including Mount Leuser, where it occurs only above 2,000 m. It is known from few museum specimens. Genetic analysis indicates its closest relative is Korinch's rat, another Sumatran mountain rat from which it diverged around 1.4 million years ago (Wikipedia, general species account).
