Alternans Water Snake

Reuss' mud snake is a smooth-scaled water snake of the family Homalopsidae found on Sumatra, Bangka, Belitung, Java and Borneo, with its type locality on Java. It has 19 scale rows at midbody and bears live young. Its habitat is poorly known but it is reportedly found in rivers and may burrow. The name probably refers to the alternating dark and light bands on its back (Reptile Database, general species account).
