Buteo japonicus

East Asia
The eastern buzzard, or Japanese buzzard, is a medium to large bird of prey that was formerly treated as a subspecies of the widespread common buzzard. Molecular phylogenetic studies revealed that the common buzzard as then defined was polyphyletic, leading to recognition of the eastern buzzard and the Himalayan buzzard as separate species (Wikipedia, general species account).
