The golden-bellied treeshrew, also called the Mentawai treeshrew, is endemic to the Mentawai Islands of Sipora and North and South Pagai. It lives in forests, and is threatened by habitat loss because the islands' forests are continually logged. Gerrit Smith Miller Jr. first described it from North Pagai Island, from a collection obtained by the United States National Museum (Wikipedia, general species account).
