Southeast Asia; one subspecies in the Andaman Islands and one along the Himalayan foothills in north-eastern South Asia
The red-breasted parakeet is a parrot native to Southeast Asia, among the more widespread of its genus and the one with the most geographical variation. It is easily identified by the large red patch on its breast, and is also called the moustached parakeet depending on subspecies. One subspecies occurs in the Andaman Islands and another in continental Southeast Asia, partly extending to north-eastern South Asia along the Himalayan foothills. Most of the subspecies are confined to small islands or clusters of islands (Wikipedia, general species account).
