Elapoidis sumatrana is a small snake reaching a total length of about 48 cm, with white margins on the upper labial scales. It was resurrected from synonymy in 2018 on the basis of geography and morphology, though that decision is somewhat dubious, and it is known from West Sumatra, with a neotype from Bukittinggi at about 920 m.
