Calluella volzi
Habitat
Lowland primary forest, 50–980m
Range
Endemic to Sumatra
The Sumatra squat frog, now placed in the genus Glyphoglossus, is a frog in the family Microhylidae, endemic to Sumatra. The specific name honours Dr Walter Volz, a Swiss zoologist and traveller. It is poorly known and occurs in lowland primary forest at elevations of 50–980 m. It is known from few specimens, probably because it is fossorial, and it probably lays eggs in pools of standing water on the forest floor. The main threat is clear-cutting of lowland rainforest for oil palm plantations, small-holder agriculture and wood extraction (Wikipedia, general species account).
