Swinhoe's snipe, also known as the forest snipe or Chinese snipe, is a medium-sized, long-billed, migratory wader, 27–29 cm long with a wingspan of 38–44 cm and a weight of about 120 g. The name commemorates the British naturalist Robert Swinhoe, who first described the species in 1861. It is identifiable as a Gallinago snipe by its cryptically patterned black, brown, buff and white plumage (Wikipedia, general species account).
